Character Name: Leopold "Leo" Fitz
Fandom: Marvel's Agents of SHIELD
Character History:
Born and raised in Scotland, Fitz started attending the SHIELD academy of Science and Technology at age 17, focusing mainly in the engineering field though he was quite advanced in other areas as well. He and his partner, Jemma Simmons, graduated three years early and, at Simmons's urging, signed up for field work rather than sticking to the labs that Fitz was definitely more inclined to stick to. They were recruited to join a small task force being put together by Phil Coulson, working alongside Melinda May, Grant Ward, and eventually a young hacker named Skye.
Stationed on The Bus, a mobile command unit plane, the two mainly stuck to creating equipment and compounds for the team to use though several times they did find themselves actively in the field working alongside the others. Their first venture into the field involved a man named Michael Peterson, who was saved from exploding by the Night Night Gun that Fitz had helped create. From there they ended up working in the field again when the group headed to Peru to investigate an 0-8-4, aka an object of unknown origin, which shook Fitz up quite a bit given the events that followed with the local law enforcement.
His ventures into the field began to grow more frequent from there, once the initial shock wore off and he composed himself better, and it was because of these ventures that he ended up growing closer to Agent Ward, whom he was sent on a mission alongside by Victoria Hand. Not all the missions he went on ended in victory for the team, though, and while on a mission that they technically shouldn't have been on alone, Skye was shot twice in the stomach and Fitz blamed himself for not having been there to help her, given he had been outside waiting for the others.
Fitz was the one to eventually discover that a secret phone line had been installed on the bus by Agent May and despite her efforts to incapacitate him so he couldn't expose her secrets, Fitz managed to trap her and inform Coulson and the others of what was going on. Unbeknownst to them, while this was going on, Agent Hand had the bus redirected with plans to kill them, under the impression that they were spies. Things escalated from here, what with Garrett and Coulson both convinced that Agent Hand was actually the Clairvoyant and the spy in SHIELD but it was soon revealed that Garrett was the actual Clairvoyant and man responsible for the infiltration of SHIELD by HYDRA.
Returning to their current base of operations, they discovered most of the team gone and it was Fitz that discovered Skye's message--"Ward is HYDRA"--while Simmons discovered Agent Koenig's body. Once it was confirmed that Ward was, in fact, the killer, Fitz had a bit of a breakdown that had to be calmed by Coulson. He was determined to prove that Ward wasn't actually a bad guy and was just being controlled but his good faith in the other led to himself and Simmons being caught and eventually trapped in a medical pod that Ward ejected into the ocean.
Despite the broken arm and other injuries he ended up with, Fitz was able to jury-rig a beacon transmitting their location in hopes that someone would pick up on it. When Simmons finally woke, having been knocked out in the fall, he explained the situation to her and eventually she was able to devise a way for them to break the seal on the pod and escape. They worked together to create the explosive needed but when the time came, Fitz handed their only single-use oxygen tank to Simmons, wanting her to be the one to survive. After kissing her, Fitz detonated the explosive.
Simmons wasn't about to leave him behind though and hauled him to the surface with her but the damage had already been done. Fitz suffered from Hypoxia, leaving him in a coma for a short period of time. When he did finally wake up, it was discovered that the lack of oxygen had caused aphasia to set in, leaving the young man incapable of putting his thoughts together properly anymore, only really able to function because of Simmons, who left not long after his recovery to go undercover in HYDRA. Despite a part of him knowing that Simmons was gone, Fitz began to hallucinate that she was still there, talking to her and closing himself off from the rest of the team because of it.
It was only because of newcomer Alphonso "Mack" Mackenzie that Fitz was really able to start coming out of his shell, the other man helping him like the hallucination of Simmons had been doing and treating him like he wasn't broken. (Since everyone else seemed to want to walk on eggshells around him.) It was during this recovery, and a mission that involved Danny Gill, that Fitz ended up going down into Vault D to confront Ward and after a minor breakdown, Fitz slowly turned the oxygen levels in the containment cell down, forcing Ward to experience what Fitz had when they had been underneath the ocean. Despite the situation, Ward managed to tell Fitz some vital information that he passed along to Coulson, saving the team from Danny Gill.
Afterwards, during a discussion with Coulson, Fitz was informed that Simmons had left at the director's request, easing him a bit but he still has a long road ahead of him to recover.
Character Personality:
Even before his injury, Fitz was always a bit social awkward. He's a scientist; science is his passion and his life and really only people that are involved in that life are the ones he can talk to easily and function around. Everyone else? He tends to make a fool out of himself at times, at least until he gets to know them better. He's always had trouble making conversation flow that doesn't involve him rambling about his latest project or experiment and sometimes he can forget that there are even other people around when he really gets caught up in an idea. It takes certain individuals to really understand him but, as of late, he's a lot more cautious of letting people in.
Despite his awkward nature, Fitz has a pretty bad temper. He can get riled up easily and when something goes against what he believes or knows? It sets him off and he refuses to accept it as truth until he has concrete evidence that it is true because he's stubborn to a fault. He's not one to let go of grudges easily and can, given the situation, turn to violence though it's really only happened once and that was in the face of the man that caused his accident in the first place.
Because of the brain damage he suffered when he was trapped underwater, Fitz has a very hard time stringing things together anymore. Thoughts don't come as easily and he tends to stumble over what he's explaining and get frustrated when it's not coming out right. It's made his social anxieties even worse and has brought on a bit of paranoia as well, considering he feels worthless and assumes that everyone else is thinking it as well. He's getting better but it's still taking time for him to really get his head back on straight.
The paranoia is also making him wary of even the people he's been working with for over a year now, unable to figure out if they have faith in him still or if they've given up. The absence of his lab partner, Jemma Simmons, has also taken it's toll on Fitz and he's prone to hallucinations and talking to himself as well, though he's recently started to realize that he is, in fact, just imagining Simmons being there.
Despite the road blocks in his way, Fitz is still a capable individual; he just needs help. His faith in himself is shaky, at best, but he's stubborn and refuses to give up completely. Not until he absolutely has to.

[When the feed clicked on, Fitz was still in the midst of a panic attack, the young scientist barely able to focus on the device as he fiddled with the settings some, hands trembling.]
Director Coulson? Agent May? Anyone? Please tell me I'm not the only one here.
[Because that's the last thing he needed right now.
Trying to pull himself together, Fitz set the device down for a moment, scrubbing at his face and letting out a breath. A bit more composed, he picked the device up and managed not to tremble as he tried again.]
This is Agent Leo Fitz of SHIELD. Can anyone hear me? I'm not sure where I am but if someone...if someone could please contact me....please?
Third Person:
This wasn't right. This wasn't possible.
Fitz had no idea how he'd ended up where he was, alone in some strange place that was completely unfamiliar to him. For a moment he thought maybe he was dreaming; maybe his mind was messing with him more than usual and he was trapped in a nightmare or something of that nature. Maybe he just needed to make himself wake up and he'd be back in the lab or his room and everything could go back to normal--or, at least, the new normal.
No. No wait. This wasn't a dream. He remembered waking up.
Trembling as he took a few steps back until he hit a wall, Fitz let himself sink to the floor. A voice in the back of his head was telling him that it wasn't a good idea, that he needed to get up and try to contact the others but he couldn't. Panic was setting in, a fear that he couldn't get a grasp on and his breathing was erratic as he put his hands to his head and tried to calm down.
"Stop it, Fitz. Stop it," he murmured, leaning forward some to duck his head as he closed his eyes tightly.
"Fitz? Fitz you need to get up."
He stiffened at the sound of Jemma's voice, forcing himself not to look because she wasn't real; he knew that now. She wasn't actually there; it had all been a hallucination.
"Fitz--"
